Hoshang Shah Tomb Mandu The First Marble Tomb

Hoshang Shah is considered to be the first Sultan ruler of Mandav after the Parmars. He declared Mandav his capital and it remained so until the advent of the Mughals. Construction of Delhi Gate and Jami Mosque in the city were ordered under his rule. He also ordered the construction of his tomb. After ruling for 27 years. Hoshang Shah died before the completion of his own mausoleum in 1436. The tomb was completed under the rule of his son Mahmud Shah in 1440. This tomb was the country's very first building made from marble. When you enter the building, there is a huge slope that leads to the centre which is Hoshang Shah's tomb and the artwork on it has a touch of Hindu architecture. It has a crescent moon structure above it which is believed to have been imported from either Persia or Mesopotamia.

There are 5 other sepulchres in the building that belonged to Hoshang Shah's family but unlike his, the rest are made from regular stone From its square doors to its magnificent dome, every part of this tomb enunciates its own beauty. The walls inside the tomb are 9.3 meters tall and 6 meters wide. The circular windows on the western side of the tomb are built 9 meters above the ground. Sculptured in tetragonal and octagonal design, they are a beautiful fusion of architecture and mathematics. It was an accomplishment for the city of Mandav that this tomb became a topic of discussion around the world and people to this day, come here to appreciate and study its architecture.

According to an inscription inside the building. Shah Jahan sent 4 of his architects Ustad Hamid, Shivram, Lateef Ullah Khan and Khawaja Sadhurai to observe the tomb in 1659. होशंगशाह का मकबरा संगमरमर की पहली क़ब्र

परमारो के बाद माण्डव का पहला सुल्तान शासक, होशंगशाह को माना जाता है। सुल्तान का तमगा हासिल करते ही होशंगशाह, पार से राजधानी माण्डव ले जाया। मुगलों के आने से पहले तक माण्डव, मालवा की राजधानी बना रहा। होशंगशाह ने 27 वर्षों तक माण्डव में शासन करते हुए दिल्ली, जामा मस्जिद और खुद के मकबरे का निर्माण करावा। इतिहास के पन्ने बताते हैं कि होशंगशाह के जिंदा रहते मकबरे का निर्माण शुरु कराया, लेकिन सन् 1436 में उसकी मृत्यु हो गयी। सन 1440 में उसके पुत्र महमूद शाह ने इस मकबरे का निर्माण पूरा कराया।

होशगशाह का मकबरा देश में संगमरमर से बनी पहली इमारत है। इसके वर्गकार दरवाजा तथा विशाल गुम्बद से इसकी सुन्दरता झलकती है। इसकी दीवार चबूतरे से 9.6 मीटर ऊंची और 3.35 मीटर मोटी है। उसकी उत्तर दिशा की दीवारों में, जमीन से 9 मीटर ऊंचाई पर खिड़कियां बनी है। इन खिड़कियों में गोलाकार , चतुर्भुजीऔर अष्टभुजी डिजाइन उकेरी गई है, जो गणित और वास्तु का जोड़ है। मकबरे के अन्दर प्रवेश करते ही विशाल दान के मध्य में, होशंगशाह की कब्र बनी है। कब्र के किनारे बनी कलाकृतियों पर हिन्दू वास्तुकला की झलक नजर आती है। इस मकबरे में काले और पीले संगमरमर पत्थरों का उपयोग किया गया है। इस इमारत के सम्बन्ध में कहा जाता है कि उस काल में इस मकबरे की खूबसूरती, भारत में ही नहीं बल्कि दूसरे देशों में भी चर्चा का विषय थी । इसकी स्थापत्य कला का अध्ययन करने दूर-दूर से लोग वहाँ आते थे। वह भी कहा जाता है कि विश्व की धरोहरों में से एक, 'ताजमहल' का निर्माण भी इसी मकबरे को देखकर किया गया था |

मकबरे में लगे एक शिलालेख के मुताबिक सन् 1659 में शाहजहाँ के चार वास्तुकार असद हामिद, शिवराम, लतीफुल्लाखों और ख्वाजा साधुराय मकबरे को देखने आए वे मकबरे में होशंगशाह की कब्र के अलावा, 5 अन्य कब्रें उसके परिवार के सदस्यों की है। इन कब्रों का निर्माण साधारण पत्थरों से हुआ है। मकबरे के शिखर पर लगी अर्धचंद्राकारकार आकृति के बारे में कहा जाता है कि इसे पर्शिया या मेसोपोटामिया से मँगवाया गया था।
