Caravan Sarai (European - Inspired Design)

This mausoleum is situated near Malik Mughith's Mosque. It is said that the construction of Caravan Sarai started along with the construction of the mosque. There are two halls with two rooms each on all four sides of the Sarai. These halls were used for the accommodation of tourists and the rooms were provided to keep their valuables. During those times these resting places or Sarais were built between temples and mosques.

It is said that this Sarai was inspired by its European equivalents. There was only one difference between the two and that was the open spaces with arches on both sides of the rooms whereas the European monuments had doors and windows for ventilation. (Source: MTPC, Dhar)

कारवाँ सराय (यूरोपियन डिजाईन)

मलिक मुगीथ की मस्जिद के पास बनी बड़ी से सराय को, कारवाँ सराय के नाम से जाना जाता है। कारवां सराय के सम्बन्ध में कहा जाता है कि इसे मलिक मुगीस की मस्ज़िद के निर्माण के समय ही बनाया गया था। इस सराय में एक 225 लम्बा और 215 फीट । चौडा आँगन है। सराय के चारे ओर दो-दो हॉल है, जिनके दोनों ओर कमरे बनाए गए हैं। इन कमरों का उपयोग, उस समय यहाँ रुकने वाले यात्री अपना कीमती सामान तथा सामग्रियों के भण्डारण के लिए करते थे। हॉल का उपयोग यात्रियों द्वारा किया जाता था। इस राय को मध्यकाल में बनने वाली यूरोप की सरायों के समान बताया जाता है।

कारवां सराय और यूरोप की सरायों में बस फर्क इतना है कि भारत में गर्म मौसम के कारण, इस सराय के दोनों ओर मेहराब युक्त खुले हिस्से हैं, जबकि यूरोप की सरायों में खुले हिस्सों को खिड़कियों और दरवाजों की मदद से खोला और बन्द किया जाता था। मध्यकाल में सराय मन्दिर और मस्ज़िद के समीप ही बनाये जाते थे।
