This
water reservoir was constructed by Baz Bahadur on the insistence of his
beloved Rani Rupmati at the base of her palace, the Rupmati Mahal. This
water tank is a matter of reverence to the populace here. Rewa Kundis
not only the container for the never drying water, but it is also
storage of many stories. According to one, Rani Rupmati was a consummate
devotee of the mother goddess-the Narmada. It is said that she would
not eat a single morsel before paying her obeisance to mother Narmada.
It is said that impressed by her veneration mother Narmada appeared in
her dream one night and told her to dig at the base of her palace to
prepare a place for the mother Narmada to come and stay. It is said that
on her insistence Baz Bahadur dug this pool where water appeared and
was stored.

There is another story from Indian mythology about this pond. It is said, Rishi Markandeya was an exemplary devotee of mother goddess, the Narmada. He used to go around the river Narmada and pass the four holy months of Chaturmas at the banks of the Narmada River. Once he was in Monday when the Chaturmas started. He could not reach the banks of his revered river mother- Narmada, this made him very sad. It is then, that mother Narmada appeared in his dream and instructed him to dig in a designated place. In doing so, mother Narmada sent its pious waters to the pool and hence it has always been a holy pilgrimage for the followers of Narmada. It is said that this pool is as sacrosanct as the river and that those who desire to circumambulate the river have to take adip in this pool before they consider their journey complete. Rewa Kund is a perennial pool. Even during the hot summer months when all other water sources in Mandav dry-up, it is this pond that quenches the thirst of all Mandav. (Source :- MTPC, Dhar)

रूपमती महल की पहाड़ियों की तलहटी में स्थित रेवा कुंड, जनमानस में आस्था का केन्द्र है। रेवा कुंड को लेकर कई तरह की कहानियाँ भी माण्डव में सुनने को मिलती है। रानी रूपमती के बारे में कहा जाता है कि वह माँ नर्मदा की अनन्य भक्त थी और महल से नर्मदा दर्शन करने के बाद ही अन्न जल ग्रहण करती थीं। बारिश के दिनों में कई बार वह नर्मदा दर्शन नहीं कर पाती थीं अपने प्रति अगाध श्रध्दा देखकर माँ नर्मदा ने एक दिन रानी रूपमती को स्वप्न में दर्शन दिए और कहा कि वह बाज बहादुर महल के सामने पहाड़ी की तलहटी में खुदाई करवायें, वह स्वयं प्रकट होंगी। जब स्वप्न की बात रानी ने बाज बहादुर को बताया, तो स्वप्न में बताये गए स्थान पर खुदाई करवाई गई, जहाँ से पानी निकल आया।

वहीं एक पौराणिक कहानी भी इस कुंड के सम्बन्ध में प्रचलित है। ऐसा कहा जाता है कि मार्कण्डेय ऋषि नर्मदा परिक्रमा पर निकले थे। वह चतुर्मास नर्मदा के किनारे ही करते थे। जब वह परिक्रमा करते हुए माण्डव की इस पहाड़ी पर पहुँचे तो चतुर्मास शुरू हो चुका था। मार्कण्डेय ऋषि नर्मदा के अनन्य भक्त थे और चतुर्मास नर्मदा के किनारे न कर पाने पर वह दुःखी हो उठे, तब माँ नर्मदा स्वयं इस स्थान पर प्रकट हुईं। माण्डव के सिर्फ इसी कुंड में साल भर पानी भरा रहता है। गर्मियों में जब पानी के सारे स्त्रोत सूख जाते हैं, तो लोग इसी कुंड के पानी से ही अपनी प्यास बुझाते हैं।
यह कुंड भौगोलिक दृष्टि से पहाड़ी की ढलान पर स्थित है। इसके उत्तरी किनारे पर एक बड़ी खाई है और वहाँ बनी रिटेनिंग दीवार के ठीक पीछे, ईंटों की एक पुरानी दीवार के अवशेष देखे जा सकते हैं। इस कुंड के पूर्वी और पश्चिमी हिस्से अधिक चौड़े हैं। इसके उत्तरी हिस्से से पानी निकालने की व्यवस्था थी, जिसे पास बने महलों में पहुँचाया जाता था। बाज बहादूर महल के प्रमुख द्वार के पास एक पुलिया के अवशेष मौजूद है। वहीं कुंड के उत्तर-पश्चिम कोने के ऊपर भी निर्माण के अवशेष देखे जा सकते हैं, जो उस स्थान पर बने आमोद-प्रमोद भवन के खंडहर बताये जाते हैं। (Source :- MTPC, Dhar)
