Lord Rama is worshipped as Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, Ram Raja in Orchha and in the form of Chaturbhuja Vishnu in Mandav. The statue of Lord Ram in Monday with a forest dweller's appearance is in the form of Lord Vishnu- controller of the world. This statue is almost as old as Mandav and has the year 957 inscribed at its back, When the Parmar dynasty fell, the temple with this statue was also demolished. All the statues were moved from the temple to the basement to keep them safe and they stayed there for more than 350 years. Shree Raghunath Dasji Maharaj- a saint from Pune came to Mandav in 1825 and around this time, the city had scant population. He was resting under a banyan tree and Lord Rama visited him in a dream. The Lord told him that his statue was in a basement under a cluster fig tree and should be taken out for people's welfare, During that time.

Dhar was under the rule of  Rani Sukma Bai from Panwar Dynasty. The saint told Rani Sukma Bai about the dream and the Rani took her minister and soldiers to the tree and digging was started. After the digging, statues of Lord Ram, Sita. Lakshman Suryanarayan and Lord Shantinath were found. Looking at the captivating statues Rani Sukma Bai decided to build a temple there As soon as the statues of God were placed on the back of an elephant, it could barely move for 10-12 steps and sat down. When the elephant could not rise from that place even after many attempts, then Saint Raghunath Dasji told the Rani that God wanted to be right here. It is said that as soon as the statues were taken off the elephant's back, it stood up. Rani considered it as God's will and ordered for a magnificent temple to be built on the spot, where Lord Shri Ram was seated with Sita and Lakshman.

Statues of Hanuman and Suryanarayan were also placed in the temple premises. Lord Shantinath's statue was given to the Jain society . (Source :- MTPC, Dhar)

भगवान राम अयोध्या में रामलला ,  ओरछा  में  राम राजा तो माण्डव में चतुर्भुज रूप में विराजमान हैं। वनवासी रूप में विराजित भगवान राम की यह मूर्ति, जगत नियंता श्री विष्णु का स्वरूप है। लगभग तो माण्डव के समान ही पुरातन इस मूर्ति के पीछे सन् 957 अंकित है।  इस मूर्ति की स्थापना के सम्बन्ध में कोई उल्लेख तो नहीं मिलता, लेकिन ऐसा माना जाता है कि उस समय राजा वाक्पति प्रथम पुत्र बैरी सिंह का शासन काल था। परमार वंश के पराभव के साथ ही  यह मन्दिर भी ध्वस्त हो गया। उस समय किसी ने मन्दिर की प्रतिमाओं को तलघर में सुरक्षित रख दिया यह मूर्तियाँ करीब 350 वर्ष से भी अधिक समय तक तलघर में ही रखी रहीं। सन 1825 में पुणे के संत श्री रघुनाथ दास जी महाराज माण्डव पहुँचे। उस वक्त माण्डव लगभग आबादी विहीन हो चुका था। वट वृक्ष के नीचे आराम करते हुए संत रघुनाथ को भगवान राम ने स्वप्न रूप में दर्शन देते हुए कहा कि गूलर वृक्ष के नीचे तलघर में मेरी विवाह रूप की प्रतिमा है, जन कल्याण के लिए उसे बाहर निकलवाओ। उस वक्त धार का शासन पंवार वंश की रानी सुकमा बाई पंवार के हाथों में था।

संत रघुनाथ ने स्वप्न की जानकारी रानी सुकमा बाई पंवार को दी, तो रानी अपने मंत्री और सैनिकों के साथ माण्डव में उस तलघर वाले स्थान पहुँची और खुदाई शुरु करवाई। खुदाई में तलघर के नीचे से भगवान राम, सीता, लक्ष्मण, हनुमान, सूर्यनारायण एंव शांतिनाथ भगवान की प्रतिमा निकली गयी और भगवान का मनोहारी रूप देखकर, रानी ने धार में भव्य मन्दिर बनाने का निश्चय किया। भगवान की प्रतिमाओं को जैसे ही हाथी के ऊपर रखा गया, तो हाथी ब-मुश्किल 10-12 कदम चला सका और बैठ गया। जब लाख कोशिशों के बाद भी हाथी वहाँ से नहीं उठा, तब संत रघुनाथ दास ने रानी से कहा कि भगवान यहीं विराजित होना चाहते हैं। इस संबंध में कहा जाता है कि जैसे ही प्रतिमओं को ऊपर से उतरा गया, हाथी उठ खड़ा हुआ। रानी ने इसे भगवान की मज़ी मान कर वहीं मंदिर बनाने का आदेश दिया। उसी स्थान पर लाल पत्थरों से एक भव्य मन्दिर का निर्माण किया गया, जहाँ भगवान श्री राम सीता और लक्ष्मण के साथ विराजित हुए। हनुमान और सूर्य नारायण की मूर्तियाँ मन्दिर परिसर में स्थापित कर दी गयी। शांतिनाथ भगवान की प्रतिमा जैन समाज को दे दी गई। (Source :- MTPC, Dhar)
