RUPMATI PALACE ( CENTRE OF MILITARY AND FAITH )

The history of Mandav is incomplete without the saga of Baz Bahadur and Rani Rupmati. Their dedication to music was unique. Baz Bahadur had mastery over Raag Deepak while Rupmati had an incomparable hold over Raag Malhar. It is said that when she sang Raag Malhar the sky became clouded. Their shared love for music was the bridge that connected them and redefined the emotion of love itself. It was music that connected the two with Mandav. The winds that blows over Mandav
and its green landscapes are still filled with Baz Bahadur and Rupmati music. The immense love that
the queen had for music was peerless, so was her faith in Mother Narmada. She started each day of hers by paying reverence to the river Narmada, for which, she went to the terrace of a grand building situated on the summit near Baz Bahadur Palace. It is one of the most beautiful and notable places in Mandav. During rainy season one can get the most captivating view of Mandav from here.

The geographic location of Rani Rupmati Palace also makes it special. It is this palace that separates Nimar from Malwa plateau and the separation is distinctly visible. This strategic location of the palace helped in monitoring any military movement on the lower grounds on either side. This is why the Pratihar and Parmar rulers made this palace their military centre. There was a large premises built for the accommodation of soldiers on the ground floor of the palace. Years later under Baz Bahadur two huge  pavilions were added on the palace's terrace for Rani Rupmati. On a clear day one can see a fine stream of Narmada from this palace.

The engineers of that era built a unique water management system. Rain water was collected from
the terrace and stored in reservoirs on the western part through drains. This is one of the most ancient
techniques for preserving water. It is said that this palace was constructed with waterproofing  techniques which can be seen even today. ( Source: MTPC, Dhar )
