According to Abul Fazal: -

The idea of the name Mandav was made with stone. He believed that while cutting a grass, a worker's sickle had become gold. The worker narrated Mandana Artist as a sequence of events and was given to Paras stone. After completing his strong ambition with the assistance of the Artist, through the help of Paras stone, he was presented Paras stone to King Jai Singh Dev Parmar . As a result of the relentless efforts of twelve years of Raja Jai Singh Dev, Mandu was blessed with a great ancient (Durga) goodwill. It is said that he presented a gift to Paras stone by the Maharaja to the Narmada side Rajpurohit, which was thrown by Rajpurohit in Narmada to think that is useless.

Even today, the Narmada fills the land sands in Narmada by filling the sand of their fists. And worn on iron brackets on the edge. In that superstition that perhaps Paras might get his hand. For that reason, the place was called Mandav (slowly) from Mandana.

History of Mandu in English:-

However, the 1401 invasion of Delhi by the Mongols came as a blessing and Malwa seized independence under its Afghan governor. Then began an era of prosperity and fortune that lasted right through the Mughal invasion until the Maratha's captured Mandu in 1732.

Dilawar Khan a true-blue Afghan opportunist, decided to rebel against his overlords, the Khilji's of Delhi, when they were caught napping by the Mongols. Peace calm and steady expansion were the hallmarks of Hoshang Shah's reign. He made Dhar his capital and it remained so until his death. His son Hoshang Shah, the very same man who destroyed the dams at Bhojpur, soon shifted base to Mandu. Some excellent monuments were erected from then on, among them the Jami Masjid, the Delhi Gate and his own tomb.

The next king in line, Muhammad Shah, ruled for a year before being poisoned by Mahmud Khan I Khilji thus seized power and founded a new dynasty. He commissioned many beautiful  buildings including his own tomb, the madrassa, and a seven-story Victory Tower, of which only the base now remains. He was a brilliant soldier-sultan, under whom Mandu gained both in territory and prestige.

Mahmud Khan was succeeded by his son Ghiyas-ud-din in 1469 and another period of peace and prosperity followed with the king devoting himself to women and song, only to be disrupted when Ghiyas-ud-din's son Nasir-ud-din found the old man going even strong at 80 and decided to speed up things a bit. He poisoned his father and finally got to sit on the throne of Mandu. But having done the wicked thing to his father,Nasir-ud-din never found joy or comfort. Eaten up by guilt and afraid of his own shadow and of being alone, he maintained a harem of 15,000 women out of whom a 1,000 were his personal guards. Nasir-ud-din had a troubled reign and is believed to have died of guilt 10 years after usurping the throne.

In turn his son, Mahmud had an unhappy reign during which his underlings like Gada Shah and Darya Khan, often had more influence than he did. Easily swayed by advisers, the kingdom slipped out of his hands when Bahadur Shah of Gujarat conquered Mandu in 1526. In 1534, Humayun the Mughal defeated Bahadur Shah but as soon as Humayun turned his back an officer of the former dynasty took over. Several more changes of fortune eventually led to Baz Bahadur taking power in 1554. I 1561 he fled from Mandu rather than face Akbar's advancing troops and Mandu's period of independence ended. Although the Mughals maintained the fort for sometime and even added some new minor buildings, its period of grandeur was over.

Mandu was built in keeping with the provincial style of Islamic architecture that can only be seen in one other place, Dhar. This style steered clear of elaborate ornamentation, favoring simplicity, mass and power. Battered or buttressed walls, bold but austere masonry and the prominent use of color, of which only traces now remain, are the distinguishing features of this style. Fading glazed patterns, tiles and inlay work of semi-precious stones in disrepair serve as renders of lost glory.

(History of mandu in hindi):-
